Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 (February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on the part of Montreal called the West Island. In reality, the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive region that runs from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay was not long in the city. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. Her early ambition was to be a dancer but a growth spurt meant that she was able to outgrow her dance partners. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed that, in her heels, she stood at 6'1 inches tall. As I got bigger than my male partners, I quit. In Brugel's case, it was the advice of one of her drama teachers from high school, which prompted her to begin acting. The teacher was the one who suggested she audition to play the character of Anne in the school's annual production. After a few auditions it, she was cast as the main character for Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since then, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions on both screens, attracting the most attention after she was offered the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian participant on the show in the season 1 of the series. She was only seen occasionally.
